Today's Daily Rangers:

NEIL DONCASTER denies Rangers will be treated as a special case.

And the SPL chief executive insists judgment will not be designed to protect the TV contracts with Sky and ESPN.
Celtic fans are threatening boycotts if a Rangers newco gets into the top flight.

Doncaster met would-be Ibrox owner Charles Green at Hampden yesterday but insisted it was not to smooth a way back for the club after the SFA threw out their appeal against a 12-month transfer ban.

He said: “I have no previous experience with Charles.

“It’s important to meet the owners of all our clubs to get a better understanding of what their intentions are. We will continue to deal with clubs equally under the rules. We’ll have to do that without fear or favour.
“I can’t get into special cases because our job is to apply the rules fairly.”

The SPL are still probing Rangers’ alleged use oftwo contracts per player over a 14-year period but there’s no end in sight to the inquiry. Doncaster said: “That will take some time and it’s being done by our lawyers.

“How long will it take? How long has the HMRC investigation into Rangers been going on?

“These things take as long as they take.

“The issue for us is, have any of our rules been breached? If they have then we will act accordingly.”

Neil Doncaster doesn't say anything about the TV deal in his quotes. The Daily Rangers have just window dressed the article to give it a scaremongering TV deal angle.

My understanding of the TV deal, because I asked Peter Martin of Sky, is that IF there happen to be Old Firm games, Sky get to show them - not ESPN. So if I am correct, Sky have the rights to show the OF games exclusively. That's it. I believe that the TV deal is NOT dependent on the participation of Rangers and Celtic, contrary to what Traynor, Young, the football phone-ins and tabloids may tell you.

That's just my understanding though. It seems that nobody can give us unequivocal, cast iron confirmation of how Rangers affect the TV deal going forward.

For the record, on the 4th of May 2012, in response to a false story that ESPN were going to pull the plug on the SPL, their Communications director Paul Melvin said, "We are disappointed to see a local Glasgow paper (The Glasgow Evening Times, whos sports editor Darrell King recently claimed live on talkSPORT that United are £12 million in debt) run a story that is factually inaccurate.

"Comments from ESPN said nothing at all about our TV deal with the SPL and explicitly stated that we were pleased with our long-term relationship with the league."

Sky today said that they "Would never comment on anything affecting individual clubs."

We NEED answers from Sky. Barney Francis is the managing director of Sky Sports, his email address is already in the public domain -

barney.francis@BskyB.com

If we know that the TV deal will continue for the same money regardless of the participants in the SPL, then everybody, including the Chairs of the SPL clubs can form an opinion based on ethics and not money.

You could argue, if you believe the scaremongering in the media, that the SPL could possibly lose money from sponsorship (I believe that the SPL are now looking for a new one as the Clydesdale Bank deal has now run out), but (and correct me if I'm wrong), ask yourself who's been getting the lion's share of that sponsorship money?

We need clarification from Sky.

Just a thought but when Mr T sits down to think about what the SPL Board should do about the blue uglies was one of the arguements for keeping them...

Just a thought but when Mr T sits down to think about what the SPL Board should do about the blue uglies was one of the arguements for keeping them in the SPL not that we would lose revenue?

If they are going to boycott all away matches will that not reduce the value of keeping them in the league? In that circumstance would we not be better keeping them out and having the dees up as that would at least generate revenue from the derbies? (Plus I'd much rather go to a game against the dees).

Only problem I see is we lose our guaranteed bye when we draw the blue uglies in the cup.....

I know that people will say the tv money will be hit but I can't see it disappearing altogether and it would allow Houston to know what his budget is going to be.
