Thoughts on the match

Wasn't one of our most dominating performances you'll ever see but this will be on of the most memorable matches you'll remember particularly under the circumstances. The players seemed so desperate to win it for Eddie and that was evident in the opening minutes with a flurry of corners seven in the opening ten minutes which all seemed to fall to Darren Dods.

From then on it was a very flat performance and should have been behind if it hadn't been for a wonder save from Lukasz has he kept out a low shot from Hugh Murray.

The start of the second half wasn't much better and our midfield just didn't seem to get to grips with the game. Early on Zaluska was again the hero as Mehmet raced through on goal but Zaluska saved down low. United's first real chance of the half fell to Dods again but he headered it just over the bar.

With the game seemingly heading for a stalemate up popped O'donovan as his cross-shot took a big deflection of a st mirren defender and looped over their keeper and into the net. One of the best feelings at Tannadice in a long long time. You just can't beat last minute goals! It was to get better as Craig Conway scored a wonder goal by runng the ball a good forty yards before finishing it home in style.

That's now five straight victories on the bounce and no doubt about it Tuesday's game is the biggest of the season so far with a place in the semi-finals up for grabs.

Reaction to the action

Craig Levein

"It was a great relief, because I desperately wanted to win this game. "It was tough because St Mirren are a really good side. For long spells in the game, I thought we played well but we struggled to break them down. "On chances, we certainly deserved to win the match. Patience paid off in the end and the lads deserved to win. "The person who would've been happiest today would've been the chairman if he was here."

Gus MacPherson

"I thought we defended superbly from the set pieces and the aerial bombardment that was coming at us. "We played ever so well in the second half, we passed the ball and maybe didn't create as many chances as we would've liked but I thought we were reasonably comfortable. "When the chances come along, especially away from home, you've got to take them at this level." "Low and behold, the goal that we lose is just crazy defending from us. Individual mistakes have cost us again."
