Rangers V Dundee United

Dundee United will look to go eight games unbeaten tomorrow night when we make the trip to Ibrox. Confidence couldn’t be higher for both sides and tomorrow’s game will go either way. We haven’t been play particularly well in the last week or so but the defence has stood up strong particularly Darren Dods and Lee Wilkie. You feel who scores first tomorrow will go on to win the game with both sides defences on top form.

Probable Team

Zaluska

Dillon Wilkie Dods Dixon

Flood S.Robertson Gomis Conway

Feeney Sandaza

United could have Jon Daly fit and available for selection but tomorrow’s game could come too soon for him. Roy O’Donovan is suspended barring an appeal which looks unlikely. Prince Buaben may come in to make it a five man midfield but there’s no reason to change it judging by recent results. We should go there and put our game plan on them not the other way around.

Kick-off: 7:45 PM

Referee: Craig Thomson

Venue   : Ibrox

Ticket News

Tickets are now sold out for the United end but tickets can be bought at Ibrox. You can contact them on 0871 702 1972.

Previous Meetings

Saturday 10th May 2008, 12:30 PM kick-off, Ibrox, Rangers 3-1 Dundee United

A refereeing horror show from Mike McCurry cruelly denied United a possible victory. An early Nacho Novo double had put Rangers in a two goal comfort zone. With United starting to take a grip on the game Noel Hunt was put through one on one before being tripped over by David Weir and to make motters worst fifteen minutes later a long range Danny Swanson shot was cruelly ruled out for offside despite the shot clearly hitting David Weir and not David Robertson. Despite all that controversy a United goal was allowed through Mark De Vries before Darcheville sealed it late on.

Sunday 6th April 2008, 2 PM kick-off, Tannadice, Dundee United 3-3 Rangers

United dominated the first half and took the lead through Kalvenes the lead was short lived with David Weir being left unmarked at the back post. Noel Hunt gave United an early second half lead by nodding in at the back post but Nacho Novo equalised eight minutes later after beating the offside trap marginally. Minutes later and United were back in front after Cuellar scored an own goal. Minutes later United again gifted Rangers the lead with Willo Flood playing his back pass too short for Kris Boyd to nip in and score.

Sunday 16th March 2008, 3 PM kick-off, Hampden, Dundee United 2-2 Rangers AET, Rangers win 3-2 on penalties

United were harshly denied in the CIS Cup final despite being the better team throughout. A late Noel Hunt strike in the first half had given us a deserved 1-0 lead. With the scores at 1-0 United were denied a stonewall penalty after Christian Kalvanes was man-handled by Carlos Cuellar. Despite United looking comfortable Rangers were gifted an equaliser as Mark Kerr’s pass back was a mile short and Boyd tapped it in. United took the edge against this time in extra time with Mark De Vries scoring a wonder goal from outside the box but once again Rangers equalised through Kris Boyd. Rangers lifted the cup on penalties with Boyd once again being United’s downfall.

Saturday 5th January 2008, 2 PM kick-off, Ibrox, Rangers 2-0 Dundee United

Two goals in the first half were enough for Rangers as United put in a poor performance without creating one real good chance. Goals from Naismith and Ferguson were enough as Rangers got a deserved three points.

Sunday 28th October 2007, 2 PM kick-off, Tannadice, Dundee United 2-1 Rangers

A Lee Wilkie strike and a Barry Robson penalty saw United’s good form over Rangers continue. This was no more than United deserved with Morgaro Gomis and Prince Buaben controlling the midfield area.

Dangermen

The addition of midfielder Pedro Mendes would be a new and interesting challenge of our midfielders. We’ve coped admirable well when Kevin Thomson and Barry Ferguson have played but Pedro is a completely different kind of player from them. We can’t afford to give him time and space on the ball as his vision and passing will kill us. Obviously their main threat is from Boyd but it’ll be interesting how we’ll cope with the pace ok Kenny Miller, no doubt he isn’t the best finisher around but he has now got a decent partnership with Boyd.

Weather Forecast

It should be another dry day in store in Glasgow but it will obviously be freezing come kick-off time.

Prediction: Rangers 2-1 Dundee United
